Pesto Recipe support

Answers to common questions, and how to reach us. On your Home Screen the app is called Pesto.

Getting started

How do I add my first recipe?

Tap New Recipe in Recipes (or on the Explore screen) and fill in the name, ingredients and steps. You can also import one from the web, as described below.

How do I import a recipe from a website?
  1. Open Discover, go to a recipe, accept any cookie prompt, then tap Extract Recipe.
  2. Or tap the link button and paste the address of any recipe page.
  3. In Assistant, Text to Recipe turns pasted text into a recipe.

Importing uses Apple Intelligence on your device, so it needs a supported device running iOS 26, iPadOS 26 or macOS 26 or later.

How do I add or remove recipe websites?

In Discover, tap the sliders button. From there you can add a website, remove one, change the order, or bring back the suggested sites. For a site you add, Pesto shows its latest recipes as a list you can import from.

How do I follow a new feed?

In Feeds, tap + and paste the website's address. Pesto finds the site's feed for you. To remove or reorder feeds, use Manage Feeds on iPhone and iPad, or drag and right-click feeds in the list on a Mac.

Sync and your data

How does syncing between my devices work?

Pesto syncs through your own iCloud. Sign in with the same Apple Account on each device and make sure iCloud Drive is turned on. Changes appear on your other devices after a short while, and opening Pesto picks up the latest.

How do I back up or move my recipes?

Go to Settings > Your data > Export Backup to save a backup file, and Import Backup to restore one. Importing replaces what's currently in Pesto, so you'll be asked to confirm.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings > Reset. This deletes your recipes, lists, meal plan and history (on all devices that share your iCloud) and restarts onboarding. You can also remove Pesto's iCloud data in your device's settings under your name > iCloud > Manage Storage.

Features

The assistant says it's unavailable.

The assistant runs on Apple Intelligence on your device. It needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence, running iOS 26, iPadOS 26 or macOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Everything else in Pesto works without it.

How do I get the timer on my Lock Screen?

Start a step timer in Cook mode, then lock your iPhone. The timer shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and Pesto sends a notification when it's done if you allowed notifications.

Scanning groceries doesn't work.

Make sure Pesto is allowed to use the camera in your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Good light and a steady hand help. Pesto reads labels and receipts, and when a photo has no text it recognizes the items themselves, such as fruit and vegetables.

Why do some links open in my browser?

Pesto's built-in browser shows a curated set of recipe sites. Links to other websites open in your usual browser, and you can still import a recipe from any site by pasting its link.
